Your social media profile can say A LOT about you. It's not just the content you post that can stand out to someone. It's everything, including your profile picture, what information you give in your bio, how you highlight your information, how you allow people to contact you, and more.
When it comes to social media, you want to optimize your social media bio so that it is easily digestible to your audience and gets the point across. Read more on eight steps to optimize your social media profile and get the customers you want!
Why Should You Optimize Your Social Media Bio?
On average, you have 3 seconds to convince a potential customer that you're the right business for them. In today's climate, there is already a business for pretty much everything, and almost every business has a social media page, so you need to stand out! Standing out doesn't mean doing more; in this case, it means doing less!
Have you ever seen a bio that was so lengthy and just confusing to read, whether the text was in a unique format or there was excessive use of emojis? Well, I am here to tell you that that could be doing more harm than good regarding your business social page.
Optimizing your social media bio is a quick and easy process that won't take you more than 15 minutes. You want to work smarter, not harder, regarding social media, which is an inbound marketing technique to help your dream clientele come to you.
Steps to Optimize Bio
The goal is to create a professional, clean, and authentic social media profile. You can take eight steps to optimize your social media bio.
Use a Searchable Name
Make sure you use a username that is searchable and relevant to your business. Stay away from numbers and characters unless you have to because another person or business has the same username. You want your customers to be able to find your profile easily. Also, make sure your username is relevant to your business.
2. Logo/ Clear Pic of You
Although your social media profile picture is small, having a clear logo or picture of yourself is still essential. Stay away from grainy graphics. You want to use a logo or headshot that best represents your brand, and you should keep it consistent on all social platforms.
3. Keywords in Name
Going back to your username, make sure your username has keywords that are searchable and relevant to your business. For Ruth Sherrill Marketing Services, our Instagram page is @MarketingbyRuth. Keyword marketing not only tells users what I do but also serves as a keyword, so if people search marketing, they will find my profile.
Example: MarketingbyRuth, CateringCathy, BusinessBrittney, thecoffeelady.
4. Have an I statement
An "I" statement in your bio is a great way to grab attention. It tells people who you are, what you do, and who your audience is. The "I" statement also personalizes your business.
Example: "I help business owners create engaging + empowering ideas in order to: Elevate, Scale and generate Profit."
5. Include a Call to Action
Make sure your bio has a call to action button that can either link the audience to your website or a way to book or purchase a product. This gives your followers a destination you want them to follow that includes more information. You can also include a portfolio.
Example: "Visit our website below", "Want a free consultation? 👇", "7 Steps to changing your mindset here"
6. Use Your Highlights
Highlights are a great way to hold valuable information. You can include anything from more information on your business, a FAQ, and policies regarding shipping or booking. When creating highlights, keep the cover pages consistent and on the theme. Use software like Canva to create cover photos for each highlight.
7. Have Contact info
You should also include contact information so people can reach you outside of DMs. Include your email and phone number. To make your profile stand out, include your business address button.
8. Post Stories Daily
Posting stories daily is a good way to keep your business on people's minds. It shows that you are present, available online and constantly showing up. You can post anything from DIL about what you're doing, funny memes, or your products and services. Also, don't be afraid to reshare stuff from other profiles and accounts, like reviews and more!
