Do you own a business and struggle with what to say when people ask you what you do for a living? If the answer is yes then you need a value proposition. It’s a simple blanket statement. It communicates and identifies the benefits of your company’s product or service and what it will deliver to your customers. It’s a proven script that will articulate your product’s unique and alluring selling points to your customers.
A value proposition, or value statement, explains how and why your business is better than the competition and why people should buy your product or do business with you. It’s a great way to communicate how you will alleviate your consumer’s problems and how you will add benefits. To learn more ways to make your value proposition irresistible read below about what you will need to include and for a free template!
Be Specific
To make your value proposition compelling it needs to be super-specific. Ask yourself what benefits your target audience and customers will receive. The more specific you are, the better.
Make it Pain Focused
We have spoken a lot about pain points in our previous blogs. To have a great value proposition, you need to identify and highlight your audience’s pain points. You then need to say how your product will fix the customer’s pain point and improve their life. A value proposition lets customers know you understand their pain points. It shows that you know how to alleviate them. With the script we use, you will be able to tell your clients and customers how to leave or better their current experience.
Be Exclusive
Your statement should be charming and specific to you. It needs to emphasize what you do better than others and what sets you apart from other companies and brands. When you create a value proposition your goal is to illuminate the best parts of your business. Don’t be scared to talk yourself up in this statement!
Writing a Value Proposition
Now that you know what a value proposition is, the next step is to learn how to write one. In writing a unique proposition, you need to do three things that will set you apart from other brands in your industry.
Find Your Voice
Figure out what kind of voice you want to use. Do you want to tell a story that is motivational, and inspiring, or are you getting straight to the facts? In writing this value statement, you need your own style to make sure it is unique and created for your specific target audience.
2. Make Statement Concise and Clear
These statements are not long, so it is best to get to the point and do it seamlessly. Find what you want to say and just say it, no buffer words. The clearer your statement is the easier it will be to digest.
3. Add in uniqueness and creativity
Be sure to get creative and add your own taste to it. If you have lingo you always use, add it in there. Don’t be shy.
When working on your own be sure to use this template, to help you create your own value proposition.
Use the VP Template
The template below is a great starter template, but be sure to make it your own! Think of your proposition as an elevator pitch. A super short, sweet, straight-to-the-point sentence that lets potential consumers and investors know what you do, how you do it, and what will be the outcome of interacting and working with your brand. It’s important that once you have your value proposition, you need to practice it not only with yourself but with family and friends.
