How to live a "Soft Life" as a Woman Business owner

Being a business owner is nothing short of amazing. Between creating your own schedule and revenue, there is much room to create the dream life you want. But there is a new trend that everyone is raving about in 2023, called a soft life. Although living a soft life and being a female business owner sounds contradictory, I am here to tell you that you can do both!

What is a soft life?

The term soft life originated from the Nigerian influencer community. It's described as living a life of enjoyment and comfort while limiting stress. It's a term that gained popularity through TikTok and is now a way of living. A soft life doesn't mean you're not working hard. It just means you are not working yourself into the ground and are taking time to enjoy life.

How to Live a Soft Life as a Female Business Owner

Okay, I know what you're thinking. How on earth will I live a soft life when I have a business to run? It's a valid question; lucky for you, I have the answer. There are several ways you can accomplish this new soft life you are hoping for in the new year.

Elevate your to-do list to a time-boxed schedule

The first way to accomplish a soft life is to elevate your to-do list. Have scheduled tasks so you won't have to worry about what to do next. For example, if checking emails, reaching out to current clients, and creating content is all on your to-do list, put them in time blocks. Having your to-do list in a time-boxed schedule allows you to be more realistic.

Setting tasks based on time allows you to understand the capacity of your day. First, write down everything you have to do on a list. Then transfer each to-do item to a day and a time. Keep it on your desktop to see in the morning or evening to know what you have to do the next day.

You can achieve this by sitting down and thinking about what you have to achieve for the upcoming week. The best time to do this is on a Sunday. Create a weekly schedule to go through those things. Get specific and leave time for admin work, a window for revisions or edits, and time to catch up on assignments. You can use this free Canva Template for weekly planning.

Getting organized and creating a time-allotted schedule for your task will actually not only keep you on track but it will allow you to free up your time.

Instead of waiting to grab dinner with the girls until after you finished all your work (who knows how long that will be), use this technique to keep yourself on a schedule so you can have more time for leisure activities while still being productive.

CEO Mondays

Dedicating time to working on your business is just as important as dedicating time to work within it. CEO Mondays allow you to create space in your schedule to work on your business. This could be learning a new skill by watching a YouTube video, reading a book, listening to your podcast, or anything to better yourself as an entrepreneur and a business owner.

You should work to increase your skills to decrease burnout. Burnout often comes from doing the same thing or not feeling equipped for your daily task. CEO Mondays will help to keep the work exciting and fresh. Studies show that the more we increase our business skills, the less likely we are to burn out in our field, and living a soft life is all about not burning out.

Delegate tasks

Another way to live a soft life as an entrepreneur is to choose your time over tasks that can be easily handled by someone else. You don't have to have an entire staff. There are many ways to get help. You can hire a virtual assistant part-time for one day out of the week and give them a list of assignments you need to be completed.

Another way to increase your business is by hiring a social media manager, blog writer, or web developer like Ruth Sherrill Marketing Services. ALL of our clients return our services because they need a service done for the business, but they do not have the time or capacity to do so. They also want it done right, so they can have professional work done and their work schedule is not bothered. Social media managers can help your social media thrive with consistent and creative content. Social media can be daunting, but it is essential for your business. Hiring a social media team will make that one less thing on your plate.

If you don't have the budget to hire a VA part-time or for one day out of the week than you should work to automate your systems. Add systems and automations into your workflow so that work can be done without you having to physically do it. This will increase your efficiency and productivity and decrease human error. You can use many resources to do so, such as:

  • Metricool: a social media automation platform that allows you analyze, manage and monitor the success of all your digital content.

  • Trello A visual tool that empowers you to manage any type of project, workflow, or task tracking.

  • Canva: A free-to-use online graphic design tool. Use it to create social media posts, presentations, posters, videos, logos and more.

  • Copy.ai: Allows business owners to create quality content with the help of an AI generator. From blogs and website copy to ads and social posts.

  • And our RSMS content calendar: An overview of your upcoming social media posts, organized by date and with over 50 content ideas.

By delegating tasks, you are freeing your time for bigger assignments that require a more creative or demanding bandwidth. It also allows you to choose your peace. Let go of the idea that entrepreneurs are meant to work themselves into the ground.
